Adventures in Julian

Last weekend we ventured up to Julian, CA.  The town comes alive during the fall with it's many apple orchards.  People from all around Southern California go there to pick apples and sample the famous apple pies.  For us (living the city life), going to Julian, was a nice break.  It's a small town with a rich history dating back to the end of the Civil War (Julian's history).  We stayed in an old house that sits on 16 acres of land in a valley with mountains all around.  Each morning, my children would wake up and run up the hill to where the chickens lived to see if they layed any eggs.  Following breakfast, we'd take the goats, Rapunzel and Hildegard on a trail walk.  And throughout the weekend, the kids were busy creating fairy houses.  It was exactly the kind of weekend we needed in the midst of a hectic soccer and gymnastics schedule.  I'm grateful for the time and space to recharge!
